R.M. Wickens – a rare breed of business

It’s not every day that you come across a family business that has stood the test of time, and is more than a century old.

But R.M. Wickens is a ‘rare breed,’ as they say in sheep farming circles. And the fact that it is more than 100 years old is testament to its respect for the world-renowned Australian traditions of ingenuity, hard work, and customer service, delivered with a warm smile.

Started in the early 1900s by grandfather Charles who was a well-known tanner and manufacturer of sheepskin products, this great Australian family business is now owned and operated by the third generation of the Wickens family. Robin and Melanie Wickens continue the tradition, custom-making high quality 100% sheepskin car seat covers and sheepskin car seat belt covers.

Quality that lasts

Hand made in Australia, these beautiful car seat covers and sheepskin car seat belt covers are sought after globally for their quality, durability and immaculate fit.

At R.M. Wickens, we do not pre-make any products, nor do we supply multi-fit products. Instead, we hand make your order to specification when you place it – and that’s why our premium sheepskin car seat covers are second-to-none.

They might cost a little more, but you can be certain the covers don’t come off a mass-production line. Each panel is hand measured and cut individually. Patterns care carefully checked and placed, and then skins are sewn together using a super strength cotton.

Our sheepskin car seat covers are made from premium sheepskins, from New Zealand (because, sadly, there are no tanneries left in Australia). They have a long, thick pile, which we trim, and tidy as part of the process of making the perfect products for you.

And, because we take a lot of pride in the craftmanship of what we do, your car seat covers will fit your car perfectly without creases or bulges, without being too big or too small.

Easy-to-install

We use side releases on car seat covers that simply snap together. Headrests are held together tightly with velcro tabs. Detailed fitting instructions are included with every pair and we are available just at the end of a phone.

Easy care

Sheepskins like ours, which are tanned with processes that are as natural as possible, are essentially self-cleaning. Sheepskin is dirt and bacteria resistant because it contains a natural product called lanolin, which is often harvested as hand creams and lip balms because of it’s moisturising and antibacterial properties.  From time to time, your sheepskin might need a good vacuum, other than that, there’s nothing you need to do to keep it in good condition.

“The ultimate in luxury for your town run about, your weekender,
or your classic pride and joy”

As a natural fibre, wool is cool in summer and warm in winter. It is comfortable and exceptionally hard wearing.

Designs for every car, make and model

It’s also easy to work with, which means that over time, as car safety features and seat designs have changed, so too, have our products. And because we tailor make, we can ensure that your car seat covers allow for air bags, pockets, trays and screens – whatever is needed. What’s more? We have five colours available to choose from – Cream, Bamboo, Stone, Charcoal and Black. There’s definitely a sheepskin to ‘blend in’ … or give you the ‘wow’ factor!

Our customers come back time and again, because well-fitting car seat covers not only look good, and add to the comfort of the driver and all the passengers, they protect your car’s interior over the long term, which is an important consideration if you want to keep it in tip top condition for eventual resale or trade-in.

A promise from Grandpa Charles

At RM Wickens, we stand by all of our products, in the same way that grandfather Charles used to do, with a 12-month guarantee on manufacturing.

We do this for a couple of reasons – because it’s what Charles would expect of us in honouring his commitment to quality products and customer service, but also because we’re completely confident that you’re going to love, love, love your order from us … and because we’re confident it will actually last years longer than you love it!

It’s important for you to know that because we also always use the same dye lots we tend to have offcuts of all shapes and sizes and this means that if you end up with a nasty stain, or if the dog chews a section, we’ll replace the damaged panel free of charge for the life time of your seat covers.
